    Abstract: This data set is an image representing the geology of Sentinel Peak and Tumamoc Hill area in Tucson, Pima County, Arizona. The study area is focused around an area locally known as A-Mountain.  This data set is a digital image representation of the map and text and is not distributed in GIS format.
    Purpose: This geologic mapping project is part of continuing efforts by the AZGS and collaborators to map and update the geology of the Tucson urban area.
    Supplemental_Information: Research supported by the Arizona Geological Survey and U.S. Geological Survey, National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program, under the EDMAP and STATEMAP programs. The views and conclusions contained in this document are those of the authors and should not be interpreted as necessarily representing the official policies, either expressed or implied, of the U.S. Government.

      Source_Contribution: Spencer compiled and simplified Phillips' 1976 map.
    Process_Step:
      Process_Description:
        (1) Bedrock geology was field mapped by Phillips (1976).
        (2) Original bedrock field sheets were published at the University of Arizona as a M.S. thesis entitled "Geology of Tumamoc Hill, Sentinel Peak and vicinity, Pima County, Arizona".
        (3) AZGS geologists traced onto tracing paper and simplified Phillips' map and unit descriptions in 2003.
        (4) Compiled map was scanned and digitized in ArcInfo.  Polygons and arcs were attributed using ArcView; cartography was assigned using Arview.
        (5) A layout with associated collar text was created using ArcView.
        (6) The layout was printed to a postscript file, then converted to PDF format using Adobe Distiller, and JPG format using Ghostscript.
        (7) Final product was printed on a plotter printer and burned onto cd-roms.
